Jazz Ruler Type: Bebop
O’s Notes: Elvin is widely respected as one of the premier jazz drummers, able to support improvisation with an amazing sense of time. He also plays hard, commanding thunderous sound from his set and he uses all of the pieces, a lot! But this is much more than just Elvin. Dave Lieman (sax), Terumassas Hino (cornet), George Mraz (b) and Kenny Kirkland (p) add their indelible marks as well. They burn, creating music that has complexity that is comprehendible. Translation: it sounds well coordinated and pleasing and well beyond a few simple riffs. Circa 1982 and still appealing.
