O’s Notes: Tom Reese (fl) leads a quartet with Bobby Brewer (g), Aaron Walker (d) and Laurie Reese (cello) with guest artist Johnny Acevedo (perc). Collectively they are The Reese Project (TRP). Tom and Bobby share the melodies and they also composed five of the dozen selections. We enjoyed Laurie’s work with the bow on “Heads-Up & Gone” and Acevedo’s contribution on “Black Orpheus”. They give us a taste if bossa nova with Jobim’s “Meditation”, a tune well suited for this ensemble. TRP is a unique grouping and this CD is worth consideration.
