O’s Notes: Power, grace and dynamics define the Grace Fox Big Band. They’re 100% female and they don’t hold back. They open with a layered approach for “Red On Red” and warm tones on trombone from Zhane Brown. “The Gospel” allows Kellin Hanas (t) and Veronica Leahy (sax) to unleash! Other highlights are “I Just Found Out About Love And I Like It” and “Stars” featuring Grace’s older sister, vocalist Alexis Fox softening the powerful large ensemble. Did I forget to mention that the leader, trumpeter, composer Grace Fox is a 19-year-old student at Manhattan School of Music, a true young lioness with tons of potential!
