O’s Notes: Pianist Steve Elmer leads a trio with Hide Tanaka (b) and Shingo Kumara (d). They have been together since 2005 and this is their second recording. It comes after they completed an extensive 3-week tour of Japan. They play modern jazz with a high swing quotient. The beats are fluid with crisp punctuation. They really cook on “Constant Lee” with nice work by Okudaira. Elmer composed all of ten tracks and injects enough energy to make sure you notice what he’s got to say! It’s worthwhile.
