O’s Notes: Gershwin, Porter and Ellington were legendary songwriters with universal appeal. For George, Cole and Duke is tenor saxophonist Harry Allen’s tribute to these masters. As always Allen swings with ease and invites a stellar cast to join him. Nicki Parrott plays bass and adds vocals on a few selections notably “In A Mellow Tone”. Ehud Asherie (p) and Chuck Redd (vibes, d) round out the quartet with special guest ‘Little Johnny’ Rivero adding percussion on three selections. It’s tough to miss with top musicians and great songs and Harry’s team lives up to expectations.
