O’s Notes: Jazz trombonist, bandleader, producer Michael Dease generally surrounds himself with great talent, and this is no exception as he performs compositions by co-producer Gregg Hill. There is excellent percussion work by Michael’s wife Gwendolyn Dease on “The Last Pop Tune”. That is followed by “Found In Space”, a tune that exposes the entire ensemble. Bassist Katie Thiroux steps up on “One For Rodney” named for another Hill proponent, bassist Rodney Whitaker. Dease works his horn on “The Stray Moonduck” and there are many other rich encounters including “Rue De Royal”, and “Chillin’ with Wess” (Warmdaddy Anderson).
