O’s Notes: Sax man, Martin writes nine new selections for Bebop and Beyond, a group of jazz musicians sharing their love of the art form in a no holds barred session. The music is bubbly, upbeat modern jazz that swings. Mel uses complex structures that are differentiated yet not so deep that the listener drowns. Among the musicians in this ensemble are Jack Walrath (t), Bobby Watson (sax), Ray Drummond (b) and drummers Billy Hart and Winard Harper. The results are exhilarating!
