O’s Notes: Ali Ryerson plays flute and leads the Jazz Flute Big Band! It is her attempt to further the role of the flute as a prominent instrument in jazz. Jamie Baum and Andrea Brachfeld are among the sixteen flutists in the band. They play with a strong rhythm section composed of Rufus Reid (b), Mark Levine (p) and Akira Tana (d). If that’s not enough, Ryerson invites guest flutists Holly Hoffman, Nestor Torres and Hubert Laws to brighten things. Still not convinced?
