O’s Notes: This is a large brassy ensemble under the direction of trumpeter Eddie Allen. Among the many talented musicians are Howard Johnson (bs), David Glasser (as, fl), Tia Fuller (as, fl) and pianist Bruce Barth. They perform a program that includes a mix of covers and originals. The latter include the really mellow “Brasilia” and the four part earthy instrumental history: “The Black Coming” highlighting the warm layered brass. Special guest LaTonya Hall sings rich versions of “You Are The Sunshine Of My Life” and “My Cherrie Amour” to round out the program. Eddie takes the lead on “Tenderly” but he shares solo duty with his team giving the session lots of dimension.
