O’s Notes: Mozayik is Eddy Bourjolly (g), Gene Torres (b), Markus Schwartz (perc), Welmyr Jean-Pierre (p) and Gashford Guillaume (d). They have been together for over five years focused on bringing their Haitian form of jazz to the forefront. We welcome their arrival as this recording sizzles from start to finish! The music includes a cool arrangement of “Caravan” and many of their own compositions. Among the best are “Havana Sunrise” and “Limy” featuring vocalist Bethova Obas. They draw on funk, bop, African rhythms to create their sound. It is refreshing.
