O’s Notes: When conductor/trumpeter Orbert Davis takes the stage, you can be assured of a scintillating, symphonic performance. Such is the case on“Havana Blue“featuring the Chicago Jazz Philharmonic Chamber Ensemble. Most of the performance was recorded live at Chicago’s Auditorium Theater surfacing the music of Cuba. It is the first recording of a planned series following an inspirational trip by Davis to Cuba in 2012. Orbert composed much of the music reflecting on his experiences during that visit. The live audience is as appreciative as we are in our studio enjoying warm ballads like “Solteras” and spirited classics like “Manteca”. It is Latin-based but easily embraceable by a large audience.
