O’s Notes: Roger (p) records this session in a trio format including Bruce Forman (g) and Dan Lutz (b). The absence of a drummer is unusual but not missed in this talented triad. The music is dedicated to Oscar Peterson, one of Kellaway’s influences as a pianist as well as in jazz style. Roger’s interpretation is well calibrated with spirited dynamics, an abundance of energy and a swinging pace. Kellaway is crisp and articulate on numerous dazzling runs across the keyboard on songs like Ellington’s “Cotton Tail” and many others. Bruce and Dan are equally up to the task making this an enjoyable set.
