O’s Notes: Ray takes the stage singing on “That’s Amore” and we immediately get energized. He’s an entertainer; singing, playing sax and leading his brassy septet through fifteen swingers. They have a ball on “When You’re Smiling”; add a taste of the Caribbean on “Mambo Italiano” and give a bit of mystery on the sultry “Angel Eyes” and “Topsy” with nice work on the ivory by Gunther Kuemayr. They wrap up the set in grand fashion with “New York New York” leaving us satisfied.
