O’s Notes: Bassist Henry leads a quartet with Theo Saunders (p), Azar Lawrence (sax) and Ranon Banda (d). They are highly energized on “Blues For Lunch”, one of three tunes composed by Saunders. As with most Franklin sessions there is a keen sense of swing regardless of the tempo. We liked the flow on “Soko” and their cover of “Harlem Nocturne”. Barbara Morrison sings on the lone vocal track “Philanthropy” with Nolan Nasheed playing cornet. This is an oral history sighting most of the jazz legends. They follow with “Yama” a reflective ballad dedicated to the jazz pioneers and a fitting closing track.
