O’s Notes: Steve (p) and Iqua (vocals) have not lost their penchant for making music that swings and makes you want to do the same. The rest of the band is bassist Andy McCloud, Reggie Nicholson (perc) and T.K. Blue (sax) each of whom do a fine job. They play mostly originals with meaningful lyrics along with a couple of covers, notably Ellington’s “Drop Me Off in Harlem”. We found ourselves bobbing our heads to the beat on more than one occasion while listening to this CD, especially on “Picante” where Steve and Andy work out a cool groove between Iqua’s lyrics. We also acknowledge a fine drum solo on the same song. Iqua takes center stage with rich blue vocals on “Regina’s Lament”. Blue injects just the right amount of soulful romance to help make this an outstanding recording.
