O’s Notes: Gary was playing what we’d now term neobop at a time when most jazz was fusion. This live performance was in Montreux at the end of a European tour during 1973. Ntu means the unity of African things and Gary and his band were engaged in the African American positive consciousness of the period. It is manifested in the music in a positive way. There are eleven songs that are powerful, funky, Earthy, expressive and cool.
