O’s Notes: Cuban saxophonist Carlos Averhoff, Jr. pays homage to his homeland marrying the dance music of the 1990s with jazz. He has a strong rhythm section with Richard Luna (p), Nestor del Prada (b) and Oliver Valdes (d). Alexis Baro (t) joins Carlos up front. The music reflects a difficult economic time in Cuba and helped the people maintain and then re-emerge with brighter spirits. That is the theme of“iOba. They do a fine job on “I Fall In Love Too Easily” and “What’s New” with excellent solos by Baro. Luna shines on “Inner Urge” and our favorite, Averhoff’s “Raquel”.
