O’s Notes: This session at Carnegie Hall typified jazz band jam sessions of the time. This material has not been released before. What made the Jazz At The Philharmonic sessions special is the emphasis on improvisational soloing, the heartbeat of jazz. No more than 40 seconds into the 1st song, “Leap Here”, Flip Phillips starts the train leading with his alto sax. Tommy Turk on trombone, Fats Navarro on trumpet, Charlie Parker (sax) and Hank Jones (p) follow. Ray Brown (b), Sonny Criss (sax) and Shelly Manne (d) round out an exceptional group. The jovial feeling of spontaneous energy excited the live audience in 1949 and this 24-bit digital release can do the same for you today!
