O’s Notes: We got excited to see a new jazz release from the famous audiophile label, Reference Recordings. Well it’s not exactly new – a compilation of prior works – but this is great music worthy of revisiting! Garson is a master pianist playing solo or in an ensemble. Listen to him dance across the keys on “Rumble” and on “All Blues” working fresh blood into an overworked tune. We’d be remiss if we didn’t mention the bass solo by Brian Bromberg or passionate sax melody from Eric Marienthal on the same tune. Those characteristics persist through all eight tracks especially “A Night In Tunisia”. Garson’s two originals fit in well with the standards. The recording quality makes the session even more enjoyable. Relax and enjoy it!
