O’s Notes: Composer and bandleader Tim Duffy has assembled an all-star cast of musicians to perform his latest creations. The collective is known as the Jazz Explorers. The core rhythm section is Billy Hart (d), George Cables (p) and Cecil McBee (b) who perform on most of the 12 songs. Carmen Lundy provides beautifully warm vocals on “Autumn” followed by “Mo’ Trane!” a funky tribute with nice work from Randy Chavez (g) and Eric Gunnison (Rhodes). Dave Liebman (sax) helps us reflect on “Our Father”. These are a few of the highlights in Duffy’s creation. It’s definitely worth exploring.
