O’s Notes: At 67, ‘Fathead’ still has the chops that rival today’s younger sax players. He’s joined by John Hicks (p), Steve Novosel (b) and Winard Harper (d) with Steve Turre (tb) and Steve Kroon (percussion) making appearances on a few tracks. Newman also plays flute on a couple of songs notably, “Cousin Esau”. Here he certainly Keep(s) the Spirits Singing!
