O’s Notes: This is the sixth recording from Fujii’s orchestra that originated in 1997. They are like-minded individuals who share philosophies of life and certainly on free jazz. There is a bit more structure with the 14-piece ensemble than with Fujii’s smaller configurations. The order lends towards more accessibility and it sat well with us. The mood is sad, as it should be on music dedicated to the passing of a man before his time, tenor saxophonist Masaya Kimura. There are six lengthy original compositions: four by Fujii with two from trumpeter Natsuki Tamura. Our favorites are “Amadare” and “Neppa”.
