O’s Notes: The One O’Clock Lab Band has become one of our favorite large ensembles up there with The WDR Big Band! Even with a continuously evolving student body, the band remains vibrant, precise and truly entertaining under the direction of Alan Baylock. Their arrangements are complex with lots of layering and harmony and the solos are very melodic. Marion Powers imparts a lot of charm on “A Flower is a Lovesome Thing”, one of five classics arranged by students. There are also four originals: two by students and two by faculty.“Lab 2018 Rhythm of the Road“is yet another winning session.
