O’s Notes: This is a well-orchestrated large ensemble led by pianist Fred Hersch. The infusion of vocalists Kate McGarry and Kurt Elling is a strong compliment. Fred is intrigued by the works of Walt Whitman and uses selected poems from Leaves of Grass for this session putting music to the words. Good music, strong jazzy vocals and classic lyrics spell success resulting in a stunning, very rich cultural listening experience.
