O’s Notes: Los Angeles based drummer Tina Raymond is a full-time professor of music at Los Angeles City College. She leads a formidable trio with pianist Art Lande and bassist Putter Smith for“Left Right Left, her debut release. Tina’s arrangements are intriguing, free spirited and provocative yet accessible. She selected the music considering tunes with various socio-political messages and encourages us to focus more on our similarities than differences. On note are “Lift Every Voice And Sing”, “Union Maid” and “Battle Hymn of The Republic”. Hopefully the plea for unity will be at least considered but for sure Raymond’s music is on point and engaging!
