O’s Notes: Trombonist John Fedchock is the leader, arranger and producer of Like It Is, a large ensemble that marries the old and new for a vibrant set. Complex layering of brass is the big differentiator for this large ensemble. That team includes Charles Pillow (as, ss), Gary Smulyan (bs), Scott Wendholt (t, flugelhorn) and Allen Farnham (p). This is the 5th recording from the band that was born back in 1989! Fedchock composed half of the ten selections and integrated the rest into his groove, one that will miss the beats of the late drummer Dave Ratajczak who sadly passed four months after making this recording. This is a great membrane and fine statement from Fedchock.
