O’s Notes: Pianist Manuel Valera works in a trio format for his latest release Live at Firehouse 12. That is a good thing because they are dangerously close to combustion on “Footprints”, one of two freshly arranged classics to go along with six Valera originals. Bassist Hans Glawischnig and drummer E.J. Strickland maintain the pace and also compliment the passionate side on ballads like “Distancia”. Valera does a fine job mixing tempos and creating new music, making this a winning recording.
