O’s Notes: Drummer Art Blakey performed at the 1972 Monterey Jazz Festival with the Giants of Jazz including Clark Terry (t), Sonny Stitt (sax), Roy Eldridge (t) and Thelonious Monk (p) in a very memorable experience. With this wealth of talent all of the solos are as rich as you could imagine. The program includes nine standards allowing each of the stars to shine. The horns are crisp all the way through! A few of the highlights: Monk leading “‘Round Midnight” with Stitt ruling the bridge; Kai Winding (tb) following Blake’s intro solo on “Perdido”; Eldridge on “The Man I Love”; and Blakey’s explosive solo on “A Night In Tunisia”!
