O’s Notes: This is a live recording of a sextet led by trombonist John Fedchock. Allen Farnham (p), David Finck (b) and Dave Ratajczak (d) are a polished rhythm section with Scott Wendholt (t) and Walt Weiskopf (sax) rounding out the brass. They swing from the start through all six selections. Four are originals by Fedchock complemented by covers of “Moon Alley” and “Caravan”, one of the highlights. Things heat up on “That’s All Right” and then simmer on “Elvin’s Empire”. The balance is well struck. The venue was the Red Sea Jazz Festival in August 2008. We’re sorry we missed it but thrilled to relive the memories with this CD!
