O’s Notes: George is masterful singing and also playing his guitar. This has been established over several decades. The best news of this session, @ Waterfront Hall in Ireland during 2000, is that Benson is playing his axe! He’s jammin’: scatting on “The Ghetto”, grooving with Joe Sample on “Deeper Than You Think” and bringing it all the way home on “On Broadway”. Of course he also plays his top hits, “Breezin'” and “This Masquerade”. We felt his contemporary vocal soul as well as his jazzy cool bop licks making it a perfect evening.
