O’s Notes: Drummer Roy Haynes teams up with two different trios: Kenny Barron (p), Christian McBride (b) and Joshua Redman (sax) or David Kikoski (p), Dave Holland (b) and John Scofield (g) over nine tracks. The music takes on a fusion feel with the Scofield grouping vs. more of a straight-ahead groove with Kenny Baron and company. Roy holds the beat steady whether adding a Latin feel on “Que Pasa?” or bouncing along on “How Deep Is The Ocean”. Love Letters is a winner.
