O’s Notes: Drummer Al Foster assembles a quartet with Kevin Hays (p), Douglas Weiss (b) and Eli Dehibri (sax). They are recorded live at New York’s Village Vanguard during April 2007. The program includes three covers and three of Al’s originals. There is great interaction between sax and piano on the opener “The Chief”. That continues through the set with Foster keeping a steady beat and Weiss connecting the dots. They come together wonderfully on “Blue In Green”. Al plays an intriguing drum solo on “Brandyn” showing the prowess that has placed him in bands with many jazz legends.
