O’s Notes: This is brass rich bebop led by saxophone player Kerry Strayer. The harmonies are warm and inviting over a program that includes both standards and originals from featured artist Gary Foster (sax, fl, cl), Kerry’s Mentor. The subtle samba of “Gaviota” and “Siempre Me Va Bien” is very soothing while “Saturday 10AM” and “Yardbird Suite” really swing. This represents today’s straight-ahead jazz scene from Kansas City. We liked the set.
