O’s Notes: This collection really swings! It is a finger-snapping type of engagement. They open with “Subtle Rebuttal” and they share the melody keeping it fresh. The harmonies in the brass section are warm and tight. This is the music (11 songs) of Thad Jones and they give it a lot of justice. The program includes bop, ballads and bossa nova. Among the strong musicians performing are Benny Golson (t sax), James Moody (t&s sax), Frank Wess (t&a sax, fl), Bob Brookmeyer (tb), Hank Jones (p), Richard Davis (b) and Mickey Roker (d).
