O’s Notes: Posi-Tone seeks to highlight the compositions of jazz legends, specifically that which has become dormant or rather obscure. The series is called Blue Moods with Myth & Wisdom as the first release focusing on compositions by Charles Mingus. The world class musicians are Diego Rivera (t-sax), Art Hirahara (p), Boris Kozlov (b) and Joe Strasser (d) with David Kikoski (p) playing on 3 of the 10 selections. Rivera’s warm, rich sax is a fine match for the material leading to a great set. “Orange Is The Color Of Her Dress” and “Pithecanthropus Erectus” are among the best in a helluva premier!
