O’s Notes: The Daniel Hersog Jazz Orchestra is built on a solid rhythm section with Frank Carlberg (p), James Meger (b) and Michael Sarin (d). They afford the plentiful horns a canvas to paint a harmonious landscape. Noah Preminger (t-sax) and Brad Turner (t) are among the many individuals expressing themselves with brief, impactful solos during the session. They are more symphonic on “Night Devoid of Stars” and grooving on “Motion”, two of six Hersog compositions surrounding a fresh arrangement of “Smoke Gets In Your Eyes”.
