O’s Notes: Kurt spreads his vocal mastery across a romantic landscape on this recording. The program includes music written by Irving Berlin, Duke, Betty Carter, Fred Hersch and a few originals. The band is excellent with Laurence Hobgood (p), Christian McBride (b) and Willie Jones III (d) anchoring the rhythms and various artists providing accents. Howard Levy plays harmonica on “Change Partners” then Grégoire Maret blows on “And We Will Fly”. Bob Mintzer plays sax on a couple of tracks. But the centerpiece is Elling and listening to Kurt Elling is fun! One again he’s got a winner.
