O’s Notes: Today it may seem strange that people would gather around a radio to listen to a live jazz broadcast but that was quite normal on the mid-1950s and Dave Brubeck and his quartet were a regular feature. This recording features Dave with the legendary saxophonist Paul Desmond, Norman Bates on bass and drummer Joe Dodge. Joe Morello takes the drum chair for the last three cuts. The program is mostly standards but includes several originals. They bounce along nicely with Desmond leading the charge especially on songs like “Love Walked In”, one of the best of the lot.
