O’s Notes: We always look forward to listening to the HR Bigband, one of the finest large ensembles around. Their precision and dynamics make whatever they play exciting and enjoyable. They have added drummer Jeff Hamilton and the masterful Joey DeFrancesco on the Hammond to add yet another dimension to their repertoire. Joey skips the bass pedals in favor of Thomas Heidepriem and focuses solely on the keys. He explodes on “Once I Loved” and the interactions between them are great on “Sonnymoon For Two” which includes a strong solo from Heidepriem. Tony Lakatos adds a screaming solo on “Tennessee Waltz” capping a fine set.
