O’s Notes: Benny is whispering melodies through his tenor sax, nicely complemented by the warmth of Shirley Horn and strings on two vocal tracks. Most of the music was recorded after a European tour in 1996 with Shirley’s complement coming in 1999 and the final song, solo piano with a classical bent, recorded featuring Lara Downes last October. This is a signal of Benny’s breadth as a composer and reach as a musician.
