O’s Notes: Pianist Mark Soskin leads a talented quartet with John Patitucci (b), Chris Potter (sax) and Bill Stewart (d). If that lineup doesn’t impress you, add John Abercrombie on as a guest on two tracks for this all-star set! The music is a combination of covers and originals that sound well together: neo-bop/fusion. You will recognize the bop standards like Monk’s “Bemsha Swing” and Corea’s “Innerspace”. “Step Lively” and “Strive”, Mark’s fusion compositions with Abercrombie, stand out as well making this a cool set.
