O’s Notes: Trombone lovers will appreciate this dedication to one of the prolific jazz masters, J.J. Johnson. Steve Turre invites five other trombonists including Robin Eubanks to join him in tribute. The rhythm section is Peter Washington (b), Victor Lewis (b) and Stephen Scott (p). Keeping all of these bones on the same tone is not trivial but they not only succeed, they prosper with strong harmonies and rich, warm sound. The selections include ballads, blues and bebop mostly written by Johnson.
