O’s Notes: Massimo plays bass and composed all of the music for Persona. The band is a quartet with Lionel Loueke (g, vocals), Peter Rende (p, accordion, vocals) and Jeff Ballad (d, perc). Two of the ten tracks are vocals. Lizz Wright puts her deep warm signature on “Winterhouse” and Gretchen Parlato breathes romance into “Clouds”. The instrumentals are full of energy notably the cool syncopated beats of “Deconstruction” and “Transference”. It’s a strong session.
