O’s Notes: Pianist Frank Kimbrough pushes towards the free side on a few of these ten tunes but it’s mostly bebop. Our favorite track is “Regeneration”. The format is a trio with bassist Masa Kamagucci who shines with a solo on “Jimmy G” and drummer Paul Motian, an excellent timekeeper. The session has a relaxed, peaceful feeling that can draw listeners into the music. This is consistent with Frank’s inviting, unanticipated style. Play is peacefully pleasant.
