O’s Notes: Gil Evans and Jimi Hendrix were to collaborate on an album in late 1970. Unfortunately, with Jimi’s tragic death, they didn’t get the chance. But Gil realized the dream with his orchestra and Hendrix’ music in 1974. Guest soloists, David Sanborn (sax) and Howard Johnson (tuba) add spice. The resulting jazzy rock with a big band is enlightening.
