O’s Notes: Trombonist Michael Treni pays homage to the blues with a ten-part suite performed by a large ensemble. It is not down home Memphis or Mississippi blues but more focused on the 12-bar structure that underpins most modern music along with the many variations. While Treni composed and arranged all of the tunes, he was inspired by many jazz legends that are cited along the way. So the music sounds familiar yet fresh and the band does a great job with sweet brass harmonies, cool bounce and lucid sound.
