O’s Notes: Mel plays sax in 4 or 5 piece band. The rhythm section is: Sam Knight or Ezra Henry on drums, Gregory Royals or Stephen Lee on piano, with Lino Gomez on bass. Reggie Pittman adds trumpet on a few tracks. They open with a Latin calypso beat on “Lord I lift Your Name on High” followed by a swinging combination of “Go Down Moses & Wade In The Water”. Smith plays both soprano and tenor sax on “Manasseh” creating rich harmonies over a popping rhythm. All of these tunes are engaging and resonate well. While all of these songs are religious, Smiths all-instrumental interpretations are his way of delivering praise. Jazz fans can certainly feel it! He presents romance to a higher being.
