O’s Notes: Argentinian pianist and composer Emilio Solla is a well-decorated musician combining the music of Spain, Argentina and New York to blossom on Puertos: Music from International Waters. This is a well-orchestrated, brassy, big band session with lots to enjoy on a serious listen or as cool background music! Emilio’s Tango Jazz Orchestra is littered with strong musicians. Todd Bashore (a-sax) has an explosive solo on”Chacafrik” and Edmar Castañeda is exceptional on the harp on “Allegrón”. We also enjoyed solos from Tim Armacost (t-sax), Jim Seeley (t), Pablo Aslan (b) and Mike Fahie (tb).
