O’s Notes: Raymond Scott Reimagined is an album that spurns adventure with a large ensemble. The band is Quartet San Francisco + Gordon Goodwin’s Big Phat Band + Take 6. The voice of Raymond Scott is captured on several introductory pieces that provide history and context, notably “The Creative Process”, “On Rehearsing the Quintette” and “I Remember Nothing of That”. Take 6’s a Capela freshens “In An 18th Century Drawing Room” and “Serenade”, a soothing ballad. Solos are plentiful from Goodwin (t-sax), Wayne Bergeron (t), Jeremy Cohen (violin), Andrew Waddell (g), Andrew Martin (tb), Francisco Torres (tb), and Sal Lozano (s-sax). We enjoyed the music, remembering the Warner Brothers animated classics, and the extensive liner notes.
