O’s Notes: At over 90 years old drummer Chico Hamilton continues to record and extend his footprint with his sextet Euphoria. In contrast with many of the hot Latin releases from Chico in the past, this one has a more relaxed swing vibe on “No Way LA” and a cool blues swagger on “Because I Care”. The music is mostly written by Hamilton and/or members of the band except for a few classics like “It Don’t Mean A Thing” arranged to fit this program. Among the best of the rest are “Don’t Go Away” &”Phyllis” featuring bassist Paul Ramsey and Eric Schwam’s sultry sax on “Midnight On Montrose Ave.”
